Removing an Old Alumacraft Fishing Boat in New Hanover, PA

The trailer tongue was rotted through and sitting in the gravel. A 16 ft Alumacraft Lunker 165 rested on top of it beside the house. The boat owners had planned to sell the rig, but recent spring storms broke heavy branches onto the tan and brown aluminum hull. With a broken bow and a trailer that could not be towed, they called us for boat removal.

Our crew pulled up with a heavy steel slide axle trailer. We could not hitch the boat trailer to our truck, so we backed right up to the rusted tongue. We ran a heavy strap around the axle of the rotted trailer and winched the whole rig, boat and trailer together, up onto our deck. A cheap strap will snap on jagged steel rust, so we used chain for the first pull. Once everything was secured, we hauled it out of the New Hanover driveway.

At the yard, we unbolted the Alumacraft from the frame and cut the trailer down for scrap metal recycling. The aluminum hull went to a metal buyer to be melted down. Our rate for a hull under 20 feet runs near $75 per foot. Call 833-658-4847 if you have a boat to clear out in Montgomery County.

In our experience, water that sits in a hull over winter freezes and expands. It cracks fiberglass, splits gelcoat, and breaks down internal wood supports. Before we transport any boat, we pull the battery and drain the fuel, motor oil, and hazardous materials for proper disposal. We take the title from you, or if the title is missing, we sign a release of liability so the boat is off your name.

What New Hanover boat owners ask us

Is my old boat worth anything?

Most small older boats cost more to tow, haul, and dispose of than the scrap metal is worth. Hull materials like aluminum have minor value, but labor, transport, and recycling fees offset it. We give you a clear price quote before we start any work.

What if my boat is on a trailer?

We remove boats on trailers all the time. If the trailer is roadworthy, we tow it away. If the tires are flat or the frame is rusted through, our crew winches the trailer and boat onto our flatbed together to safely haul them both off your property.

Junk boat removal across Montgomery County

Crews cover Montgomery County: Pottstown, Norristown, Lansdale and Trappe. Early summer calls often come from homeowners who took the tarp off and found winter snow load damage. When an old hull sits full of water in a driveway, people want the yard back for summer.
