Hauling an O’Day 22 Sailboat from a Babylon NY Slip

This white and light blue O’Day 22 sailboat sat in the water for three seasons without moving. The owner had stopped sailing and the marina staff needed the slip cleared to stop unpaid fees from piling up. They called our crew to get the boat out of the water and off the property.

The slip sat next to a patch of marshy dirt that would sink a standard tow truck to its axles. We parked our heavy haul truck on the hard asphalt fifty feet back and ran out long winch cables. Our crew secured straps around the fiberglass hull, backed the trailer down the firm ramp edge, and pulled the vessel slowly out of the water without putting tire weight on the soft ground.

We removed the small outboard motor for parts and pulled the steel yard trailer for recycling. The remaining fiberglass hull went to a scrap yard to be crushed and processed for proper disposal. Boats over 20 feet are priced over the phone, because size and setting change the work. If you need boat removal in Babylon or Suffolk County, call 833-658-4847.

In our experience, winter water left sitting inside an unattended sailboat hull freezes, splits the gelcoat, and rots the wood core inside the floor. Before any vessel goes to scrap, our crew pumps out all fuel tanks, drains crankcase oil, and pulls the lead-acid battery to keep hazardous materials out of the ground.

Two questions we hear on jobs like this

What happens to my boat after removal?

We tow the vessel to our shop to sort the materials. Our crew pulls usable metals, winches, and clean mechanical parts for scrap recycling. The remaining stripped fiberglass hull goes directly to an approved disposal facility to be crushed.

Can you remove a boat without a title?

Yes, we can handle the job without a title in many situations. When no title exists, our crew provides a legal release of liability form for you to sign. This paperwork documents the transfer so the boat is officially off your name.

Boat disposal across Suffolk County

Crews cover Suffolk County: Lloyd Harbor, Quogue, Nissequogue and Lindenhurst. Early summer brings a rush of calls across Long Island as marinas clean out slips for paying guests. Boat owners often discover that winter storms tore their covers and left hulls full of rainwater right when slip fees come due.
