Hauling a Damaged Pearson 26 in Commerce City

The side gate gave our driver four inches on each side. He backed the empty boat trailer through the opening without scraping the paint, then walked back to check the boat. It was a 26 foot Pearson sailboat with a tan fiberglass hull and a brown accent stripe. June hail had knocked holes in the deck, finishing what age started, and the boat owner needed it gone.

Our crew lowered the mast first. We unpinned the stays, laid the aluminum pole down the centerline, and lashed it to the pulpits so it would not overhang the road. We winched the hull onto our trailer, double-strapping the keeled bottom so it could not tilt on the highway. We also pulled the small outboard engine off the transom to keep the tail weight light.

Since the hull remained sound below the waterline, we sold the vessel to a repair yard for restoration. Sailboats over 20 feet require a phone estimate since their rig size and site location shape the labor. Boats over 20 feet are priced over the phone, because size and setting change the work. In our experience, strong high-altitude sunlight breaks down fiberglass gel coats in Colorado long before the winter cold cracks the deck fittings. We pull the battery, drain the gas tank, and drain the engine oil before taking any craft for recycling. We take the title when you have one, or sign a release of liability so the vessel is off your name.

Before you call: two common questions

How to get rid of a bad boat?

Call us to tow it away. We load the hull onto our trailer, haul it off your property, and safely dispose of all hazardous materials like gas and oil. We handle the boat removal process from start to finish so you do not have to tow it anywhere.

Is my old boat worth anything?

Most old hulls carry no resale value once the deck or transom rots out. If the fiberglass remains solid, a salvage yard or repair shop might purchase it for parts. Otherwise, we haul the vessel away and recycle the metal hardware at a regional processor.

Removing boats across Adams County

Crews cover Adams County: Federal Heights, Todd Creek and North Washington. Early summer storms usually bring a surge of calls from boat owners facing heavy hail impact on stored hulls. Sun damage and winter ice wear down fiberglass year after year until one bad seasonal storm wrecks the deck completely.
