When we pulled up to the house in Onondaga, an 18 foot white Sea Ray bowrider with a teal stripe sat tied to a concrete seawall. The owner had stopped going out on the water a few seasons ago. He wanted the canal edge clear again and called us for a full boat removal.

Before we could haul the hull up to our trailer, we had to clear out a fuel tank that was still half full of old gasoline. Gasoline turns to varnish over time, and you cannot tow a tank like that down the road. Our crew hooked up a grounding wire to prevent static sparks, then pumped the fuel directly into approved transfer jugs. Once the tank was empty and ventilated, we winched the fiberglass hull up the bank without spilling a drop.

We hauled the outboard motor to a scrap facility for recycling. The fiberglass hull went to a landfill that accepts boat materials. Our price sheet lists boats under 20 feet at about $75 a foot. If you have an old hull in Onondaga County, call us at 833-658-4847.

In our experience, water left inside an unattended boat freezes during harsh northern winters, which cracks the outer gelcoat and rots the wood inside the floor and transom. We drain all remaining fuel, siphon the engine oil, and pull the battery for proper disposal before taking any metal for recycling. We take the title when there is one, or we sign a release of liability so the boat is off your name.

What Onondaga boat owners ask us

Can you scrap a boat at a scrap yard?

Most scrap yards only accept the metal parts from a vessel, such as aluminum fittings or the outboard motor. They usually turn down fiberglass hulls. We haul the hull to a landfill that takes fiberglass and scrap the metal parts separately.

Can you remove a boat that is in the water?

Yes, we can remove boats right from the water, a slip, or a seawall. Our crew brings heavy winches and pumps to secure the boat, pump out water if needed, and pull it safely onto our trailer for haul away.

Where our crews work around Onondaga

Crews cover Onondaga County: Syracuse, Baldwinsville, North Syracuse and Manlius. Early summer brings a high volume of boat removal requests from boat owners clearing out backyards and canal docks after uncovering winter damage. Snow loads often rip old tarps, leaving hulls full of rainwater by June.
