We pulled up to the house in New Berlin and saw a 20 foot MasterCraft ProStar 190 sitting deep in the lawn. The tan fiberglass hull with its brown accent stripe had sunk four inches into wet turf after heavy spring rain. The owner showed us the letter from his homeowner association. He needed the old ski boat gone to clear the violation.

The real challenge was getting the rig out of the backyard. The side gate gave us four inches of clearance total on the trailer tires. Mud made backing our truck into the yard impossible without tearing up the grass. Our crew laid wide wooden plywood sheets down the side of the house to create a solid track. We unhooked the trailer, hooked a power winch to our truck on the driveway, and guided the tires through the narrow gap inch by inch.

We towed the rig to our shop, separated the inboard engine, and sent the fiberglass hull for proper disposal and recycling. The trailer cleared up fine and went to a local farmer for yard use. Jobs like this are priced over the phone, because size and setting change the work. If you have an unwanted hull in Waukesha County, call 833-658-4847.

In our experience, spring rains in Wisconsin pull hidden water into open hulls that already suffered through winter freezes. Water freezes inside fine gelcoat cracks, expands, and softens the wood underneath. Before we tow any hull away, we drain all residual fuel and oil and pull the battery for safe handling of hazardous materials.
